About us
The Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) is the national umbrella body for travel agents in Kenya, representing a growing membership of over 300 travel agencies. As the country’s largest and only membership organization for travel agents, KATA advocates for industry interests, fostering growth, and shaping policies that enhance the business environment. Committed to elevating travel sector standards, KATA offers members resources, networking opportunities, and industry insights. It collaborates with key stakeholders, including government agencies, airlines, and global travel organizations, to keep Kenyan travel agents competitive.
KATA is actively engaged in regional and international forums, holding memberships in the Universal Federation of Travel Agents’ Associations (UFTAA), the Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF), and the Association of Eastern and Southern African Travel Agents (AESATA), where it also hosts the Secretariat. This reinforces KATA’s commitment to strengthening travel and tourism networks across Africa.
Our Story
Our History dates back to 1957 with the East African Society of Travel Agents, which laid the foundation for organized travel services in the region. Following the collapse of the East African Community, KATA was established in 1979, inheriting the legacy and expertise of its predecessor. Since then, KATA has become a leading voice in the sector, championing the interests of travel agents, driving innovation, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and advocating for better policies within the travel sector.
